Name:West Mine Cottages


Near West Mine were four cottages of which at least three were in existence in 1787. Several of these were still lived in untill the 1940 - 50s. Except for the brick and stone lined well, all the remains of the cottages including the foundations have been either removed or buried. According to the nineteenth century censuses the cottages were occupied by agricultural workers until the 1857-1877 mining period when some of the occupants became miners and other miners moved in.
