Monument details

HER Number:130/2/1
Type of record:Archaeology
Name:Little Moreton Hall Gardens

Summary

Geophysical survey has been undertaken to attempt to locate the original plan to the gardens. The main feature is one of two circular prospect mounds. A prospect mound is an artificial hill, created to provide a viewing platform of the landscaped view (or prospect).

No garden features were uncovered during excavation though the earliest deposit suggests a 15th century date for the moat. The Hall, moat and prospect mound are a Scheduled Monument.
