Monument details

HER Number:840/1/1
Type of record:Archaeology
Name:Seven Lows Barrow 1

This prehistoric barrow cemetery first recorded in the 16th century by John Leland. They are noted again by Ormerod in the 19th century though two of them had been removed by then. Today only five of the original seven are identifiable. The remaining five are Scheduled Monuments.

Round barrows are a type of burial mound, particularly used in the Bronze Age. Mounds of earth and stone were placed over a burial or cremation. A single barrow could be re-used for several later burials.
