Monument details

HER Number:1951/2/3
Type of record:Archaeology
Name:Field system at Bruera Moat

Summary

Outside Bruera moat is a larger area defined by banks up to half a meter high. This formed the curia associated with the moat, which is subdivided into large enclosures which must have contained cowhouses, orchards, etc. Within the enclosed area there is some ridge and furrow which suggests the area may have originated as ploughed land. There are also three rectangular ponds in the northern area. The moat and associated field system are a Scheduled Monument.
